Q.4

What have you learned from your audience feedback?
I received feedback from my music video and ancillary work (digipak and ad). Feedback is very important as you're able to  make any changes before you release the final product.
Rough cut feedback
We received wonderful feedback for our rough cut. Members of our class said we had lovely locations, good shots, the graffiti was eye catching, there was good framing and everybody liked the use of pans and tilts in our music video. We were advised to not have our artist standing in front of a building as it looked like the buildings were coming out of the artists head. We took action and made sure we did not make buildings look as if they were coming out of Jaleesa's head when we next filmed. After the screening at the cinema feedback
The overall feedback was that we needed more outfit changes and more close ups. Other than that the editing and camera work was really good.

After our screening of our music video at the cinema I decided to ask for feedback from two girls and 1 boy, so that I can hear a range of opinons from both genders.

 Ancillary Feedback
Feedback from my teacher of my ancillary work
I pitched my ideas of my digipack and advertisement to my teacher and requested feedback from her. I received very good feedback and my teacher liked the reason of my font styles and my colour scheme. The feedback I got was to change the name of the album. My album name is called "Jaleesa" and my teacher thought it would be better to call it "Jaleesa the album". This is because an artist would name their album their name if they already have previous albums.

Q.2

This is a gif from Brandy ft Chris Brown- Put it down music video. The artist has braids and is showing it off by touching it and flicking it.

Jaleesa is also rebranding her hair by touching it

Overall, I have a clear understanding of what synergy is and how to use it as I have kept my synergy consistent through all my media products. My two main synergy which are clouds and braids were shown in the music video, digipack and advertisement.
I have also used synergy on the advertisement and the front cover where I have used the same image.
  • Used the same text and font throughout the digipak and advertisement.
  • Same clothes worn on digipack and ad.
  • Same colour font
  • Same background

Jump cuts are used to contradict the pace of the song.

I was inspired by  the Wanted 'Glad you came' video where there were jump cuts at the start of the video showing the different locations

Overall, I think my group stuck to the genre which is 'house' when creating our media products as people who are interested in house music like to listen to the beat of the song rather than the lyrics. So having a disjuncture music video makes it even more interesting for the audience. I was influenced by Eliza Doolittle who is also an artist of 'house' genre and I noticed that her album cover looked fun, bright and different. I also made  my digipack in this way and I feel that I have stuck with the genre and I'm sure that the audience will be able to tell that the album is of the genre of house from just looking at it.

We used a range of camera shot types to identify and rebrand the artist.

    Evaluation Q.2 Plan:

How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary texts (digipak and advertisement)?

Synergy used in music video, digipack and advertisement:
Artists hair style (braids) shown in music video, digipack and advertisement
Clouds shown in music video, digipack and advertisement

ZYKIeA on Make A Gif, Animated Gifs

kadWUQ on Make A Gif, Animated Gifs

In the gifs you can see that clouds were shown in our music video and so were braids.

    • I have also used synergy on the advertisement and the front cover where I have used the same image.
    • Used the same text and font throughout the digipak and advertisement.
    • Same clothes worn on digipack and ad.
    • Same colour font
    • Same background

    Evaluation Q.1 Plan:

In what ways does your media products use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

    • Vernallis techniques:
    • Base tracks are constantly used to give an specific structure to the music video
    • The camera moves in time with the music/beat
    • Jump cuts are used regularly contradict the pace of the song, and keep the audience engaged
    •  Some edits such as transitions and wipes are obvious to draw attention
    • 'Continuity' editing rules are not followed to draw attention to what is on screen

    • Goodwin's techniques:
    • Goodwin believes that illustration, application and disjunction are used to help visualise a song
    • Illustration- where the video tells the story of the lyric
    • Amplification- occurs when the videos introduce new meanings that do not contradict with the lyrics but add layers of meaning
    • Disjuncture is where there is little connection between the lyric and video or where the video contracts the lyric.

    The Hype music video:

    • Disjuncture: The music video does not match the lyrics as the song is about two people and the video is of 1 person singing along to the lyrics. We were highly influenced by TLC- No scrubs video as they were singing about love and men and their video showed no contextual similarities to the lyrics.
    •

z9Mncp on Make A Gif, Animated Gifs
    • The use of jump cuts often cut to a rapid like in ‘Glad You Came’ by The Wanted, in the first 20 to 30 seconds edit is cut to the raid beat of the song. We were influenced by this techniques and used this in our music video

k6dczA on Make A Gif, Animated Gifs

    Digipack and advertisement conventions:

    • Artists picture on the front of digipack and on advertisement
    • Artist name big and bold
    • Clear and readable text
    • Date of release on advertisement
    • Album title name on advertisement and Digipack
Influenced by Drake-Nothing was the same album cover and Eliza Doolittle's self tilted album

THINK I'VE FINISHED MY DIGIPACK, THE INSIDE AND MY ADVERTISEMENT

The front and back of my digi pack
The inside of my digi pack
    My advertisement

    Making my advertisement

I've just finished making my advertisement. I have used the same photo of the artist which was on the digipack on my advertisement. The colour scheme, background and font style has all stayed the same. I included 5* reviews from company's to influence the audiences choice when they're looking at the ad. I have included where the album with be available and have also included the artists and record labels website address.

The making of the inside of my digi pack

I am currently making the inside panel of my digipack and I don't have much to add on except from writing the artists name and album name on the CD.
I have decided to put the lyrics of the songs on the album on the inside of the Digipack to make a lyric booklet. The first song shows the lyrics of the song The Hype which is the song we created a music video for.

The making of my digi pack

I am currently, in the middle of designing my digi pack. So far, I am doing well and I'm not slacking. As you can see I have a lot of layers as I have a lot of images and text on my digipack. I had to make a few difficult decisions when deciding the type of image and font I'll be using on my digipack. On the front cover of my digipack, I have decided to put a picture of the artist looking very happy, enthusiastic to attract buyers. I have also made the artists name in a banner to keep my digipack consistent as I have listed some of the songs in one. I think its important to keep up with consistency as any changes can make the whole thing look bad. For the back cover, I decided to use a full shot of the artist and put the song tracks around her. I thought this idea is creative and unique as most albums have songs listed vertically. I have used the font called 'knitwits' because it is bold and attractive, it is also very easy to read. I have used black and white text which really go well with my background.

    Using my own image

Wanting to gain more marks, I used a photograph that I took for my photography coursework to use for my digipack! I cropped the image so I could just get an image of the clouds.

    Copy right

When making my digipack I need to make sure all the images on it are mine and aren't owned by anyone else. I have taken several shots of clouds which will be my ideal background.

    Feedback from our music video

Here are some videos of people giving us feedback for our music video, i did take feedback from 5 different people, however for some reason some of the videos won't upload

Although i couldn't upload the videos from the other people, the overall feedback was that we needed more outfit changes and more close ups. Other than that the editing and camera work was really good.

Feedback on my plan on my digipack and advertisement

I pitched my ideas of my digipack and advertisement to my teacher and requested feedback from her. I received very good feedback and my teacher liked the reason of my font styles and my colour scheme. The feedback I got was to change the name of the album. My album name is called "Jaleesa" and my teacher thought it would be better to call it "Jaleesa the album". This is because an artist would name their album their name if they already have previous albums.

    Plan for advertisement

I have decided to use the same image on the digipack for my advertisement. I have increased the size of the image of the artist so that the audience can easily recognise her. I have also kept the banner theme consistent as I will put the artist name in the same banner as I did for the digipack. The same bold black font will be used and so will the clouds for the background. I have included the release date and social media links.

    Summer work: Digipack

I made this Digipack in summer 2013 using photoshop. My group did a music video to Madonna Vogue and I made a digipack for the Vogue album. As you can see, the colours on the digipack are consistent as I have used the colours yellow and white. I have chosen to use these colours because they are very bright and eye-catching and can easily be recognised. Using Photoshop, I used the magic wand to go over Maya in order to make the background black. I then selected a template with three boxes, a box for the front cover, back and middle. To make my digipack official I included the copy right information and the bar-code.

Photos I took for my digipack

    Digipack Planning

This is my planning for my digipack. I created this on paper and printed and stuck on my images onto the digipack panel template. When creating my plan, I was influenced by Eliza Doolittles' album cover as she had clouds as her album background. Our use of synergy was Jaleesa's braids and my original idea was to have Jaleesa whipping her hair. However, I was told that it would be impossible to cut around Jaleesa on photoshop so came up with a second plan. I then thought to just style Jaleesa's braids and have her hair coming down her front body. The colour scheme for my digipack is quite simple as I have used black and white for the font colour. I feel that these colours are simple and go correctly on the digipack as some bright colours have already been used. The artist is wearing bright clothing as she is wearing pink, orange and gold and the background of the album is bright blue. I feel that if i made a font green, pink, yellow etc, it'll make the album cover look a bit  childish which is out of its genre. I thought it would be nice to have our artist wearing something different to what she was wearing in her music video. This is because fans may want to keep up to date with Jaleesa's fashion trend so having a different costume is a good way for fans to be influenced. There are a few font changes on the digipack. This is where the songs are listed. I think that having a few different font styles matches our music genre which is house as house music is quite crazy. I have used different crazy font types to convey the genre.I think the layer of the song listings is very unique as most album covers have the song listing going down in order.
Here is the design for the CD. I was highly influenced by Drake's album cover as he also had clouds as his album background.

    Advertisement Trial

I have made an advertisement to the album 'The Hype'. I have included social network logos, however I think these logos are placed wrong and are enormously big. I haven't really added much to this advertisement as this is only a draft but when making my final one I will make sure everything is correctly sized and positioned. I will include information such as tour dates, social network links. Reflecting back onto my rough copy of making an advertisement for the first time, I think this would not be great to submit for the final outcome as it looks unfinished. I have not experimented with font styles and colour.
